The Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) is the definitive application form required under Australian Law, to be married. You may download this form, complete it, and send it to your preferred Marriage Celebrant (no more than 18 months prior, and no less than 30 days) prior to your wedding.

If you have an urgent reason to be married, either due to work related, health, travel, or other legitimate reasons, you may apply for a Shortening of Time (in other words to reduce the statutory to less than 1 month and 1 day)

Official Marriage Certificate Application FormOfficial Marriage Certificate Application Form

After your wedding ceremony, you will be presented with a Marriage Certificate as a reminder and memento of the day, however this certificate cannot be used as proof of your legal married name. You will need to apply to the office of Births, Deaths and Marriages in order to receive your Official Marriage Certificate.
