Where do you stand when you solemnise our marriage?

Related to Ceremony

There is no absolute position that I stand, although I prefer to stand well away from the bride and groom, generally nearer the end of the bridal party. From this vantage point, I can address the guests as well as the wedding couple. It is also the optimum position for wedding photos, beacuse there is no celebrant standing in the way when the couple are taking their vows and exchanging rings.

What makes your ceremonies different to other Celebrants?

Related to General

My ceremonies are best described as short, punchy, upbeat, and light-hearted whilst being highly professional. I tend to work with couples who are looking for something more relaxing, fun, yet polished and memorable. I do not stand between the couple (during the ceremony), in fact I stand well-clear of the central focal point (photographers love this). I also perform the entire ceremony completely from memory, without notes (although I do carry an iPad for effect only)..

If the State I live in recognises gay marriage am I legally married?

Related to Legalities

No. The Australian Marriage Act 1961 is a federal law, meaning that the States effectively have no power to change it (this must be done by the senate that sits in Canberra). Federal law covers the nation, whereas state-law is specific to that state only.

What makes a gay same sex marriage different to a heterosexual marriage in Australia?

Related to Legalities

Firstly, gay same sex marriages are generally referred to as a committment ceremonies, and secondly there is no legal paperwork. The wording during a gay union must be different to a legal civil union, whilst there is also no government marriage certificate issued. There is also no filing with Births Deaths and Marriages after the ceremony, because the Australian government does not currently recognised gay same sex marriages as legal.
