Marriage Registry

The Registry of Birth Deaths and Marriages is a central government run repository, and generally accessible in each state or Territory.

The purpose of the Registry, is to store, handle, maintain and reproduce specific documentation and evidence relating to the legitimacy of family and ancestral linage. Documentation may include such items as:

  • Birth Certificates
  • Death Certificates
  • Divorce Papers
  • Change of Name Papers
  • Family History

There is often a fee associated with the exchange, modification, reproduction or delivery of registry documents.

Getting Married at the Registry

In addition to providing and handling legal documentation, it is also possible to schedule a marriage ceremony at the Marriage Registry offices. This is made possible, because the Marriage Registry is responsible for handling all marriage certification and registrations anyway.

The process of getting married at the Marriage Registry is generally the choice of couples who either have a limited budget, or want a discreet ceremony. The Marriage Registry offers a several package options for couples wishing to schedule a marriage ceremony, which usually includes the choice of a few different rooms.
